How are you?
We ask this question of others and answer it for ourselves so frequently it becomes almost meaningless. Pause for a moment and really ask yourself how you are. Are you happy with the answer?
Wellness is often overlooked on the path to success but how you present yourself to the world and what energy you bring could be determining factors on how far you make it, not to mention how much fun you have along the way!
Maintaining wellness does take time and it needs constant nurturing, but the results are exponential. A fraction of your time today, will ensure the energy, motivation and good health to thrive tomorrow.
Follow these 3 tips to make sure that you don’t become one of the walking unwell.
Work with your circadian rhythm
If there were something which made your skin glow, your brain sharp, immune system strong and helped prevent weight gain, would you want to do it? What if it was free? Don’t overlook the importance of quality sleep in your quest for success. Being tired and irritable is not the way to achieve your goals! Decide whether you are an owl or a lark and work with your circadian rhythm when you need to find more hours in your day. Larks are better off getting up earlier to work, whereas owls will be more productive if they sleep later and work into the night.
Manage your stress with meditation
Are you in control of your stress or is the stress running the show? The reality is that you have little control over the things which cause stress but you have absolute control over your response to them. Meditation changes the way that your brain sees and responds to stressful events and over time rewires it so that you don’t trip off the fight or flight response. Would you prefer to be known as the person that keeps their cool under pressure, or the one that loses it?
Start with just 5 minutes a day and build your practice gradually. You can download one of the many apps that are available, listen to guided imagery or simply sit quietly and let the thoughts pass through your mind. Accepting that downtime isn’t wasted time is fundamental to wellness.
Make time to eat real food
Eating food which is as close to its natural state as possible gives your body the fuel it needs make you perform at your best, and look great while you’re doing it. The vibrancy and inner fire that comes from a diet full of nutritious, whole foods can’t be replaced by a handful of supplements and takeaway. Eating well doesn’t have to be time consuming though. For a speedy breakfast, boil eggs and store them unpeeled in the fridge for up to 3 days. Always cook enough dinner to double up as lunch the next day and even better, cook batches of food for the freezer. Simple food is usually the most nutritious so focus on vegetables, fish, raw nuts, quality meat and fresh herbs.
