I bought The Power of Now a long time ago. Recently I picked it up again and read it from the start. It’s so powerful that first chapter when he speaks of his experience of becoming ‘enlightened’. Just to recap for you…
It was when he noticed ‘I’ in his own conversation to himself. He was in the depth of despair when he said ‘I can’t live with myself anymore’, then he realized that there must be a second person AND there’s not, therefore one mustn’t be real. At that point the ego was discovered and Eckhart collapsed to awaken in another state, one of bliss.
In my own experience I know that when I become conscious of myself and the spinning dialogue in my head, I’m able to take a step back in my mind. I witness myself talking to myself about all sorts of fears or worries or irritations – then it stops. I am yet reminded again by this wonderful man to do that more often.
If you haven’t read this book, do your soul a favour and buy one. It’s the 101 about the workings of the mind. It’s a book after you’ve read it, to keep it close and pick it up and read a few pages when you needed to be reminded about certain illusionary problems you may have. Thank you Eckhart!
