I had a great time at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the buzz of bloggers and designers filled the air! This time I spent enjoying the talks from industry hero’s telling us about the change in fashion and social media and how to stay ahead if you are a designer or buyer in retail. In the next year I will be launching my own brand (just between you and me) so I’m interested in everything about creating your own brand. I know of course a lot about branding and marketing, so I lucky to be ahead of most, but creating something from your heart is always exciting but scary as well!
As I watched the fashions stream down the runway, I was excited to see such innovation, but always relieved to see the ready to wear which is few and far between in MBFW Australia, something we should have a lot more of as Australia is such a relaxed country. For me winter is all about simplicity, monochromes, lemon and dusty pinks. Grey is big and I purchased my own must have grey coat from Bassike which I love. Throw on a buttoned up crisp white shirt, black pants and my white Van’s and I’m happy. Think Black, White, Grey and a splash of colour if you need!
There is so much variety having talked about how grey is big, so it’s important to wear something that reflects YOU. My 3 tips for building your autumn/winter wardrobe:
1. Clean out old coats and jumpers you don’t wear - make space in your mind and your wardrobe (even make some money if you feel you can eBay some of them)
2. Lifestyle Assessment - so many times we can buy things we LOVE but will never wear because we don’t’ go to red carpets OR we don’t do yoga Or (this is me) I don’t wear really high shoes, so only last year I decided to not buy any more really high shoes. Buy for what you do and what you like to wear.
3. Research online - Google is our best friend, we can find out anything, so use it to find out what is out there and think about outfits and style as opposed to one off items. For example, when I saw the grey coat I loved, I built 3 outfits around that coat…
4. Quality, not quantity. Especially in winter, we need good quality items, a great long coat (more classic but has style), short coat (fun, funky and a piece) or if you can only get one, then go the classic. Great pair of jeans boots and scarf. Scarves are great, because a change of scarf can change a whole outfit!
5. Only buy what you love! Fashion is about expressing your creativity, your essence and yourself! So make sure you love what you buy because you want to express that in your outfits!
