It's funny sometimes when I'm shopping with a friend, I'll spot something and I'll think 'that's so them' or they'll find something and go 'that's so you Scarlett...'
What makes our Style AND can you change it???
When you see these glamorous stars of Hollywood, they ALL have stylists. These Stylists are here to address 4 things with their HOLLYWOOD Stars:
1 What's in FASHION right now
2 What fits with their IMAGE/PERSONAL BRAND
3 What suits their BODY
4 What is something that NO-ONE else will have that's unique and the 'latest'.
How do you find out the answers to these questions if you don't have the funds to hire a great Stylist OR a Personal Brand Specialist (lol)...
1 - Finding out what is in fashion is sorting through websites such as vogue or instyle, there are also hundreds of bloggers that just do that, so explore, but make sure you are looking for your 'Style' of clothing. For example - someone who is a bit bohemian in their dress would look at 'Free People' to see what they are making, more corporate would look to Vogue. etc.
2 - Sit down and explore what your 'image' is - what are you trying to say about yourself. What ARE you trying to say? Perhaps you want to be seen as creative, corporate, relaxed, intelligent, successful, approachable, mysterious, fashionable, interesting etc. Get clear on that, in fact it's very interesting what you find out! (Get your friends to help too).
3 - What suits your body...mmm. I would get photos of yourself and look at what you wear objectively, ask those first 3 questions. Ask others to help you answer them, other people will give you honest answers IF you are prepared to listen and not take it personally. I actually get great feedback from my husband, he was the one who said to me "why do you hide your waist?" My reply was that "I don't like it.." he said "you only make it bigger by wearing floaty things..." And he was right, from that day on I changed alot of my wardrobe to be more fitted around the waist area. I love that my judgement on hiding it went along with 'what we resist, persists' - I was probably making my waist bigger! (Amazing where some constructive comments come from ;)
A big part of change is to be OPEN & FLEXIBLE. I know my mother used to tell me when she did interior decorating, she would come back 6 months later and her clients style would creep back in and take over. So if you have someone help you, then don't just look at pieces, learn why they have chosen it for you and why it suits you.
Often our internal beliefs and values express themselves in our outer expression OR they are there to cover them up (yes me and my waist) - knowledge is power, so learn how you STYLE your Personal Brand.
4 - Something unique and the latest? This is often held in with people wanting 'Red Carpet' looks. Their stylists will see something on the runway and then try and get it urgently for their clients - so that's normally a stylists job OR if you are clever and have the time, just stay in touch with the Fashion Shows.
Remember true glamour comes from the inside, it's a magic and mystery created from self-love and a kind of inner confidence that no-matter how you look, you're happy with who you are. AND don't worry if you don't ever feel that (lol) we're all together on that, life's journey IS about finding the self-love we all deserve to have ;)
